Profile and Assignment: As the civillian commander on the Atlantis mission, Doctor Elizabeth Weir has been thrown head first into a situation where most people would be out of their depth. On Earth, Dr Weir is a highly respected diplomat , skilled in negotiating difficult treaties betweek unsettled countries. Chosen personally by the President to take control of Stargate Command in the wake of General George Hammond's removal , she soon showed her integrity by standing up to the machinations of the corrupt Senator Kinsey.

Upon Colonel O'Neills promotion to General, Dr Weir led the exploration of the Ancient outpost uncovered by SG-1 in Antarctica. As a result she was the natural choice to lead the fated expedition to the Lost City of Atlantis. Despite knowing that it may be a one way trip and her private fear of what lay ahead, Weir readily accepted the assignment. Now in the Pegasus galaxy, she must keep her city of international personel safe whilst searching for a way to defeat the wraith and learing to use the remaining Ancient technology.

She will also be required to use her powers of diplomacy when dealing with races affected by the awakening of the Wraith scourge. Strong determined and intelligent as a diplomat, Weirs biggest challenge as overseer of Atlantis will be learing to command rather than compromise.
