Profile and Assignment: First encountered on her native planet by Colonel Sumner, Major Sheppard and Lieutenant Ford as they searched for a source of power to atlantis, Teyla is the natural leader of her people. The Athosians, decendants of the Ancients that survived the original wraith attack. Teyla's people have since abandoned the use of the Ancient's great knowledge, although they still have some small items of advanced technology. Under constant threatof attack from the Wraith, Teyla and her people were constantly required to move their villages and comps from place to place, making for a very basic and unsettled existence.

When John Sheppard relocated the survivors of the latest Wraith attack to the city of Atlantis, Teyla became part of Sheppard's gate-traveling team. Emmagan's experience of trading with various races throughout the Pegasus galaxy makes her a valuable information resource.
