Profile and Assignment: Once a scientist so arrogant that he labelled SG-1's Colonel Samantha Carter a 'dumb blonde'. Rodney McKay has mellowed somewhat since the unspoken period when he worked in Russia as a penance for the decision that almost allowed SG-1's former Jaffa member Teal'c to be lost in the Stargate's crystalline memory. The doctor is an expert on the science involved with gate travel. As a valuble part of the tam investigating the Ancient outpost in Antarctica, he joined the expeditionary party to the Pegasus galaxy.

An example of the international flavour of the Atlantis team, McKay is a canadian in the civilian branch of the task force. Not trained for combat, McKays main duties will be deciphering how to use any Ancient technology the teams discover on their travels through the Stargate. He will also be responsible for developing a sustainable energy source for Atlantis.
