Profile and Assignment: Beckett experienced the power possesed by the Ancients first hand whilst serving as Medical doctor on the project investigating the uncovered outpost in Antarctica. Despite being reluctant to help with the research provided by those with the all important genome, Dr Weir managed to persuade him to participate. Doing so unfortunatly activated an Ancient drone, which subsequently attempted to destroy an aircraft carrying Major John Sheppard and General Jack O'Neill. This turn of events was instrumental in persuading Beckett of his importance to the mission.

As the expedition's only medical doctor, Beckett will now be responsible for keeping not only the Earth personel in good health, but also the alien members of the new Atlantis colony, requiring him to become knowledgeable in the field of Xenobiology
